Indications and Usage:
Implanted subdermally for the correction of moderate to severe facial wrinkles and folds (e.g., nasolabial folds), as well as for facial lipoatrophy or facial fat loss in patients with HIV. Also approved for oral/maxillofacial defects, vocal fold insufficiency, and radiographic tissue marking.

Side Effects and Contraindications:
Must not be injected into blood vessels as introduction into the vasculature may occlude the vessels and could cause infarction or embolization. The calcium hydroxylapatite (CaHA) particles of Radiesse have been shown to be radiopaque. Studies have shown that the CaHA particles are clearly visible on CT scans and may be visible in standard, plain radiography. There are few reported side effects and those reported are commonly associated with injection of filler materials. These may include swelling, bruising, pain, itching, and tenderness at the injection site. These conditions typically resolve on their own within 1 to 2 days.
