Thalomid® (thalidomide) Pregnancy X

How Supplied:

50 mg, 100 mg, 150 mg, and 200 mg tablets

Indications and Usage:

Thalomid is indicated for the acute treatment of the cutaneous manifestations of moderate to severe erythema nodosum leprosum (ENL). Thalomid is not indicated as monotherapy for such ENL treatment in the presence of moderate to severe neuritis. Thalomid is also indicated as maintenance therapy for prevention and suppression of the cutaneous manifestations of ENL recurrence. Thalomid in combination with dexamethasone is indicated for the treatment of patients with newly diagnosed multiple myeloma.

Side Effects and Contraindications:

Due to its known human teratogenicity, even following a single dose, thalidomide is contraindicated in pregnant women and women capable of becoming pregnant. Thalidomide can cause severe birth defects in humans. Side effects may include drowsiness, somnolence, nerve damage, dizziness, orthostatic hypotension, decreased white blood cell counts, increased HIV viral load, hypersensitivity, bradycardia, Stevens-Johnson syndrome and toxic epidermal necrolysis, and seizures. Patients should be instructed to take thalidomide only as prescribed in compliance with all of the provisions of the S.T.E.P.S. Restricted Distribution Program.
