Side Effects and Contraindications:

Fetal harm may occur when administered to a pregnant woman. Tetracycline-class antibiotics used during tooth development (last half of pregnancy, infancy, and childhood to the age of 8 years) may cause permanent discoloration of teeth and should not be used unless other drugs are not likely to be effective or are contraindicated. Patients should be advised that photosensitivity can occur with tetracycline-class drugs and that pseudomembranous colitis has been reported with nearly all antibacterial agents, and may range from mild to life-threatening.
